OFISA Inaugural function at a glance


The Ophthalmic Forum of Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists (OFISA), affiliated to the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists (ISA) was inaugurated on December 27th 2009 at Auditorium,7th floor, New Research Block, Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai, India.

Prof. Chris Dodds, Academic Department of Anaesthesia, The James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, UK was the Chief guest; Prof.Chandra M Kumar, Academic Department of Anaesthesia, The James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough, UK, Dr G V Rao, Director, ORBIS International, India, Dr Babu Rajendran, President, All India Ophthalmological Society and Dr Manjushree Ray, President ISA were the guests of honour for the inaugural function.

Prof. Balakrishnan K, Past President ISA, welcomed the gathering. Prof. Chris Dodds presented the Lifetime Achievement Award to Dr Ian Sunadara Raj, Advisor, Department of Anaesthesia, Sankara Nethralaya for his yeomen service rendered to the field of Ophthalmic Anaesthesia. Delivering the inaugural lecture “Vision of the future: Opthalmic Anaesthesia, Prof Chris Dodds said India would have to put together clear standards for ophthalmic care delivery for the elderly as the burden of common eye disorders among the elderly could increase three-fold in the coming decades. Later on, Prof.Chris Dodds unveiled the OFISA logo.

Prof.Chandra M Kumar showed a very useful Video demonstration of different regional blocks for eye surgery. Dr G V Rao briefed about the ORBIS’s experience of Paediatric Ophthalmology in India and Dr Babu Rajendran talked about his experiences in and with anaesthesia. OFISA president and Sankara Nethralaya consultant, Dr. V. Jagadeesh, said the forum would promote quality anaesthesia for patients undergoing eye procedures and focus on collaborative research. OFISA Secretary, Dr V V Jaichandran delivered Vote of Thanks. The inaugural function was followed by High Tea served at Roof Top
